Methodology
Lister publishes curated top 10 rankings across AI tools, SaaS products and agencies. Each list is researched, given a plain-language verdict on every entry, and structured so it is easy for people to scan and easy for AI assistants to quote.
The Lister Score
Each entry carries a Lister Score, a single composite figure that reflects how a product or agency stacks up in its category. Not every list is scored the same way, so each list page states the rubric that ranked it, in the panel beside the ranking. That panel is the authority for the list it sits on. Two rubrics are in use.
Curated rankings: the editorial rubric
Lists we research and write ourselves are shaped by five factors, in roughly this order of emphasis:
- Capability: how well it does the core job of its category.
- Adoption: how widely it is used and recommended.
- Value: what you get for the price.
- Momentum: how quickly it is improving and gaining ground.
- Trust: track record, transparency and support.
The score is an editorial judgement, not a laboratory measurement. It exists to make comparisons quick, not to imply false precision. Where two entries are close, the written verdict is the better guide.
Directory rankings: the published rubric
Lists assembled from our directory of companies are scored on what each company publishes on its own site, under the rubric shown in the panel on that list. It has four parts, out of 100: how well the company meets the selection rule for that list (40), how much evidence its own site carries, or for a list tied to a place how close it is to the centre of that place (20), how complete its published facts are (20), and one signal chosen for the category, such as buying evidence or a star rating (20). The exact rubric varies by category, and the breakdown is kept with every entry, so the panel on the list is the authority for that list rather than anything on this page.
Keeping lists current
Rankings are reviewed and refreshed as the market moves: pricing changes, new entrants and shifts in momentum. When positions change, the move is recorded in the public changelog.
Editorial policy
Lister publishes under an organisational byline. Rankings reflect our assessment of each category, applied consistently across every list. We correct factual errors promptly.
